Many customers have a basic understanding of the 4Cs of diamonds, and even the fluorescence reaction. But some of the traps that hide diamonds are often not listed on the certificate. Today I will introduce to you one of the most common diamond traps: milky diamonds.
What is milky diamond? Does it affect diamonds?
A milky diamond is a type of diamond that has the same level of color, clarity and cut, but its value is very low. Because the contained cloud-like impurities (Cloud) block the path of light reflection and refraction, it looks white at first glance, but it is not transparent and has a turbid and fuzzy feeling, which affects the fire color of the diamond. To put it simply, it doesn’t flash or fire .
Milky diamonds are 100% the most serious diamond trap, bar none.

What is the cause of milky diamond?
The most common cause is serious inclusions, mainly Cloud and Twinning Wist. Therefore, basically the vast majority of milk diamonds exist at Si1 or below . The lower the clarity grade, the greater the risk. For grades of VS1 or above, there is almost no need to worry about breast diamonds caused by defects.
Sometimes, strong fluorescence (Strong Blue and Very Strong Blue) is also one of the causes of milk diamonds.
How to judge a milky diamond?
1) The most accurate – see the actual diamond
According to different degrees, the industry generally divides breast diamonds into shallow milky diamonds (M1), medium milky diamonds (M2), and deep milky diamonds (M3). Deep breast diamonds can be easily seen at a glance: they are blurry and do not flash. Shallow milky diamonds and medium milky diamonds may require some experience. Generally, it is recommended to distinguish them by comparing them with another transparent diamond under strong white light. The most accurate way is to be introduced by an experienced expert (seller) and judge by looking at the actual product.
2) Look for clues from the certificate
standard certificate:
The Comment column shows Clarity grade is based on clouds that are not shown, which is almost certainly Milky Diamond.

If the inclusions in the diamond drawing are not commensurate with the clarity grade, for example, the Si2 grade is extremely clean, you need to pay special attention even if there is only an Additional Cloud in the Comment . On the contrary, there is no need to worry too much about the Cloud located in the drawing.
Small certificate:
The clarity grade is VS2 or below, and the types of defects are relatively single, mainly cloud, with a high probability of being milky diamonds.
Summarize
Milky diamonds are 100% the most serious diamond trap. Generally, online shop customer service may only make introductions based on the GIA certificate. Therefore, buying diamonds online will face certain risks. The safest thing is to find a store with high reputation and experience!
