1) Plan the required budget first
Proposal is a sincere expression of one's lifelong commitment to one's lover. The most important thing is based on your actual ability, so no matter how much you spend, it still represents a precious thought .
The first step in choosing a diamond ring is to set a budget. However, if you have no idea about the budget for an engagement ring, you may want to refer to the following information:
In Western countries, the most common saying is “the two months salary rule” – that is, two months’ monthly salary will be used as the budget for purchasing an engagement ring. Back in Hong Kong, I interviewed more than a thousand couples based on "Easy Life"
Statistics show that in 2017, Hong Kong couples spent an average of HK$34,225 on engagement rings, which increased by 18% to about HK$40,300 in 2018.
Judging from the statistics of Mi Ya Diamond’s customers, the budget ranges of HK$20,000 to HK$30,000 and HK$50,000 to HK$60,000 are the most popular. The two figures are quite close, which to a certain extent reflects the most common demand in the market.
2) Which is more important, brand or diamond quality?
More and more customers believe that purchasing a diamond of significantly better quality and size within the same budget is more important than pursuing a brand.
Although brands have their inherent advantages, the fact is that the value of diamonds (including their ability to retain value) is almost only affected by the grade on the GIA certificate.
For example, a customer buys a GIA-certified diamond for HK$10,000 at an upstairs shop. A diamond of the same quality would cost about HK$20,000 at a chain store, and may cost more than HK$30,000 at a well-known international brand! When the customer wants to sell or recycle the diamond in the future, the recycling price will be close to the same based on the same grade. If some brands of diamonds do not even have a GIA certificate, they must be sold at a very low price before they can be resold.
3) How to choose diamond quality?
After collecting basic information, you will know that the price of diamonds is mainly affected by the certificate grade, including the most commonly heard 4Cs, polishing, symmetry and fluorescence. But how to choose the priorities?
First of all, we would suggest that it is best to choose 3EX (cut, polish, symmetry) diamonds, because the cutting directly affects the sparkle and diamond size, among which Cut Grade is the most important. Even to save budget, it is recommended to keep The cut grade is EX.
Secondly, do not choose diamonds with too low a clarity grade. Such diamonds are prone to encounter impurities that affect the sparkle or structure of the diamond. For example, severe cloud and twinning wist can lead to milky conditions; severe edge cracks (feather) can easily break under pressure. In most cases, we recommend that the lower line of clarity is Si2 .
The last thing is to choose diamonds that have no fluorescent reaction. Diamonds with stronger fluorescence will have a certain chance of making the diamond turbid . However, since there is a significant price difference, fluorescence grades Faint and Med can also be considered when price is considered.
